A Study On The Movement Of Implementing The Marriage Law In Anhui Province From Female Perspective (1950-1953)

The movement of implementing the marriage law in Anhui Province refers to publicizing and implementing the marriage law in Anhui Province from April 1950 to the end of 1953 after the enactment of the Marriage Law in 1950.Through the research methods of the gender perspective in the study of Women’s history,we can see that the implementation of the marriage law in Anhui Province promoted women’s personal,ideological,social and political liberation.In the movement of implementing marriage law in Anhui Province,women were not passively waiting to be liberated but were actively taking the initiative to promote the development of the movement and their own liberation.Focusing on women,we can find that the Marriage Law of 1950 was a continuation of the anti-feudal struggle in the family and a need to reflect the superiority of the women’s liberation movement in a socialist society;under the leadership and organization of the Communist Party of China(CPC),women made important contributions in China’s modern revolution and construction,so the CPC attached great importance to women’s power after the founding of the People’s Republic of China(PRC);besides,the old feudal marriage system’s bondage to women and the serious marriage problems in reality were the direct reasons for the CPC to make the marriage law earlier.The old feudal marriage system has bound women in terms of personal,ideological,social and political shackles,so women’s liberation needs to break through all the shackles in order to be realized.The Marriage Law of 1950 empowered women in the family and social spheres,making women gain the same rights as men and providing a legal guarantee for women’s liberation.However,the transition from law to reality did not happen overnight.After the Marriage Law was enacted in 1950,Anhui Province(1950-1952)carried out relevant publicity and implementation,and made some achievements,also found a lot of problems.In Anhui Province,the publicity and implementation of the Marriage Law encountered great resistance.There are many misunderstandings among cadres and the public about the Marriage Law,and many suicides and killings have occurred.At the same time,the work in this period also accumulated a lot of experience,such as the City of Wuhu held various types of meetings for different groups of people during the Marriage Law Publicity Week,which solved the ideological problems of cadres and the masses,realizing that ideological emancipation is the key to solve the marriage problems,which made preparations for the Marriage Law Implementation Movement Month in Anhui Province later.At the end of 1952,the central government decided to launch a nationwide movement to enforce the marriage law because of similar resistance problems and a large number of suicides and killings were occurring everywhere.According to the instructions of the Central Committee of CPC and under the unified guidance of the Central Committee of CPC,typical experiments were carried out in the north and south of Anhui Province before the Movement Month.There are certain differences in the sources of cadres and division of labor between the two places,as well as in their working ideas and specific practices.In northern Anhui,the cadres were mainly drawn from the provincial government,while in southern Anhui,the strength of grassroots cadres was emphasized.Northern Anhui pays attention to finding marriage problems first and then dealing with them.Southern Anhui pays more attention to the ideological training of cadres and the ideological publicity to the masses,and promotes the self-resolution of marriage problems through the ideological transformation of the masses.On the whole,northern Anhui focused on using the practice of criticizing and dealing with old marriage and family problems,while southern Anhui paid more attention to praising new marriage and family and setting up various new models to guide the masses,and the typical experiments in the two regions accumulated important experience for the work of the Marriage Law Implementation Movement Month in Anhui Province.In 1953,the Marriage Law Implementation Movement Month in Anhui Province has been carried out in an all-round way.In the first stage,cadres suitable for publicity are trained,which are prepared for later publicizing and implementing;in the second stage,various means of publicizing are selected and used for mass publicity;the third stage regulated various marital disputes,and selected and praised various models to consolidate the achievements of the movement;finally,after the announcement of the end of the movement,Anhui Province continued to further deal with the unfinished work during the Movement Month and developed various systems,which promoted the normalization of the implementing the marriage law.The Marriage Law Implementation Movement has promoted people’s ideological emancipation and provided ideological preparations for women’s liberation.In the movement of implementing the marriage law in Anhui Province,women did actively acted under the leadership of the CPC and under the specific and systematic guidance of the all-China Women’s Federation and local women’s federations.Wuhu Women’s Federation has led women to actively promote the marriage law through the network of women’s organizations,actively cooperated with other government departments to promote and implement the Marriage Law,and actively influenced other forces to promote and implement the Marriage Law,thus advancing the promotion and implementation of the Marriage Law.In addition,recognizing that women ’ s participation in political movements and the implementation of the Marriage Law are mutually reinforcing,the Women ’ s Federation has actively promoted women’s participation in political movements and closely integrated them with the implementation of the Marriage Law,and women’s political power has developed and grown through their participation in various political movements,which has provided an important guarantee for women to break out of traditional social and political constraints.The movement of implementing of the marriage law in Anhui Province had an important impact on women’s liberation.The movement promoted women to become modern citizens and the development of women ’ s political power.However,women also paid a heavy price in the movement,moreover,the degree of women’s liberation into the society before marriage is greatly reduced by the fact that after marriage,they suffer from the fatigue of having more children and have to return to their families again.In addition,other issues such as the practice of subordination,which was not touched upon in the movement,also had a profound impact on women.The movement of implementing the marriage law in Anhui Province showed that the change of ideology is an important way to solve the problem of marriage,and the aim of anti-patriarchy and paying attention to women’s liberation is to maintain the harmony of the family.It reflects that women ’ s liberation is a unified process in which women acquire rights and assume corresponding duties and responsibilities,and reminds that gender equality is not only concerned with the equality of rights,but also cannot ignore the balance of obligations between the two.Today’s marriage and family issues are still complex,women still need to continue to play their own initiative and use the power of the state to promote women’s further liberation and harmonious development of the family.
