Bangladesh-China Economic Relations In The Twenty-First Century

The present study is a broad discussion on Bangladesh-China economic relation.Throughout the study,an attempt has been made to explore the gradual development of Bangladesh-China economic relation with particular focus on the twenty-first century.Officially,Bangladesh-China economic relation began started during the tenure of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.It took firm root during the period of Ziaur Rahman,Since the beginning of the twenty-first century due to the gradual and steady development,it has been flourishing.At present,Bangladesh and China have expanded their economic cooperation in infrastructure,transportation and communication,information technology,power,maritime and also in other sectors.Both sides have decided to explore these potential sectors and gain maximum benefit through proper utilization of these sectors.Besides,China’s BCIM-EC and Belt and Road initiative are acting as a driving force in strengthening Bangladesh-China economic relationship by accelerating mutual trade and business and,at the same time,by strengthening regional connectivity in this region as well as in the whole world.So,by applying realism and liberalism as theoretical framework,the study tries to explore how both sides want to ensure mutual economic benefit and to add a new dimension in Bangladesh-China economic relation.Under qualitative approach taking into consideration the historical and empirical analysis,the study describes as well as explores the role of Bangladesh-China economic relation in the economic development of both countries.At the same time,the study identifies the potential sectors of development in the twenty-first century.Taking mutual cooperation,mutual benefit and win-win situation as the key characteristics of Bangladesh-China economic relation,the study also discusses the process through which both sides are trying to establish these fundamental principles.Apart from this,the research also examines the role of the BCIM-EC and BRI master plan in the economic development of Bangladesh.It explores the major challenges that Bangladesh and China are facing to expand economic cooperation.Based on the facts and figures of the study,an effort has been made to furnish some valuable ideas which can be fruitful to overcome the challenges and ensure economic growth through the proper utilization of the potential sectors.
