With the development of Web 2.0 technology, online knowledge communities have rapidly emerged in recent years and have been an important platform for users to exchange, share and collaborate on knowledge. However, the development of online knowledge communities has also encountered many problems, such as low user retention rate, insufficient continuous knowledge contribution, uneven knowledge distribution, and so on.In response to these problems, this article combines a series of theoretical methods to explore the impact of user received feedback on their retention and knowledge sharing behaviors with empirical research methods. The definition of feedback in this study is from the user’s perspective, that is,the reaction of other users in the online knowledge community towards either of the question or the answer behavior of the target user.Generally, according to different knowledge interaction behaviors initiated by users, feedback can be divided into feedback based on questioning behavior and feedback based on answer behavior;according to different expressions of feedback,it can be divided into textual feedback and non-textual feedback;according to different feedback emotions,it can be divided into positive feedback and negative feedback.Based on the existing research status, this paper selects different feedback to carry out corresponding analysis towards different participation behaviors of the users in the community. This article first analyzes the retention behavior of new users in the online knowledge community. The article explores the impact of three different types of feedback regarding the dual identities of new users as questioners and answerers, which including whether the question is answered, whether the answer receives the textual feedback, and whether the answer receives the positive or negative non-textual feedback.Compared with previous studies, this article compares the potential differences between the feedback on the same user’s question and the answer behavior when it affects their retention behavior.Using the survival analysis model, this article combines social capital theory, social exchange theory and social cognition theory to deeply analyze the impact of the above three types of feedback on new user retention.Research has shown that when new users have more answers receiving textual feedback and positive non-text feedback, their retention time increases significantly. In contrast, when new users have more questions unanswered and answers receiving negative nontext feedback, their retention time will be significantly reduced, and the magnitude of the negative influence will be stronger than the positive one.Secondly, for the community, keeping users’ continuous knowledge contribution behavior is an important guarantee for maintaining the sustainable development of the community, which therefore induces the research interest in this article.Based on the existing research, this paper divides the feedback towards on user’s contributed answers into positive textual feedback, negative textual feedback, positive non-textual feedback, and negative non-textual feedback according to the expression form and content emotion of the feedback.Combining feedback intervention theory and selfregulation theory, this article firstly explores the role of feedback expression in online knowledge communities on user knowledge contribution behavior. This paper uses Poisson panel fixed effects analysis and compares the differences between different feedbacks in affecting the continuous knowledge contribution behavior of users. It is worth noting that this article considers both the quantity and the quality of user contributed answers, that is,the quantity of high-quality-answer.The research results show that for the positive feedback, textual feedback can significantly improve the user’s subsequent high-quality-answer contribution, while non-textual feedback will have the opposite effect. For the negative feedback, both textual feedback and nontextual feedback have similar positive effects, and there is no significant difference. In addition, this paper carries out a series of robust tests to eliminate the potential bias including sample selection bias, sample outlier, model and variable measurement dependence to ensure the reliability of the results. Finally, this paper further explores the influence of feedback on user’s question choice preference during the process of knowledge contribution. In the past empirical analysis on feedback and user’s problem choice preference, research scholars often focus on the question-based feedback to analyze the influence of reciprocity factors. In contrast, this article starts from the user’s answer-based feedback, and deeply explores the influence of textual feedback, positive non-textual feedback, and negative nontextual feedback on user’s question choice preference.Based on the LDA topic model, this article first classifies the questions in the community under different topic, and then collects the number of users’ answers under each topic as a dependent variable.I also collect the number of received textual feedback positive non-textual feedback, and negative non-textual feedback obtained from these answers, which consist of the main independent variables. The research results show that all three types of feedback can promote users’ subsequent answer within same question topic, while the threshold for the positive effects is different. This finding further clarifies the different mechanism characteristics of different feedback in influencing users’ knowledge contribution behavior.Combining the above three parts of research, this article systematically explores the impact of different feedback on user’s different behavior in the online knowledge community. For the theoretical contribution, the research provides a deeper understanding of the diversity of feedback influences in online knowledge communities. For example,it demonstrates the sensitivity of new users to negative feedback in community retention decisions. The article also emphasizes the importance of feedback expression in motivating user’s continuous high-quality-answer contribution. As the same time, this article deepen the influence mechanism of the feedback on the question choice in the user’s answering process. In addition, this article also has a wide range of practical significance. The article results provide valuable opinions and suggestions for solving the problems of low user retention and insufficient continuous knowledge contribution, and the results also provides favorable guidance for the feedback mechanism optimization in online knowledge communities.
