| In the process of digitalization and intellectualization and in the context of transition economy,new technologies,new markets,new rules and various emergencies continue to emerge.The degree of uncertainty in external environment is increasing,which provides opportunities and challenges for the decision-making and implementation of disruptive innovation for enterprises.Environmental uncertainty is not only a background or moderating factor,but also a direct factor that affects enterprises to carry out disruptive innovation.However,the current research on environmental uncertainty and enterprise innovation mainly regards environmental uncertainty as an important moderating variable.There are still relatively few studies on enterprise innovation that use environmental uncertainty as an independent variable,and there are still differences on how environmental uncertainty affects enterprise innovation.The research on disruptive innovation started late in China,and some scholars confused the concepts of disruptive innovation and radical innovation in the early stage.Existing studies emphasize the importance of resources,organizational structure,organizational culture,technology and process on disruptive innovation.However,under the background that environmental uncertainty has gradually become a direct factor affecting enterprise innovation activities,research on the impact of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation of enterprises is still lacking,and further research is needed.Based on this,this research will focus on the issue of "how environmental uncertainty affects disruptive innovation".In the practice of enterprises,different enterprises which also perceive that environmental uncertainty contains disruptive innovation opportunities,have different performance effects.Therefore,whether in the process of environmental uncertainty affecting disruptive innovation will be affected by other factors within the organization.This research will explore the mechanism and boundary conditions of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation.Existing research shows that different dimensions of environmental uncertainty have different effects on different types of innovation.Therefore,it is necessary to treat environmental uncertainty as a multidimensional construct and explore the impact of each dimension on disruptive innovation.First of all,this research draws on the theory of social information processing,and uses the environmental uncertainty perceived by managers to study its impact mechanism on disruptive innovation.With reference to the new institutional theory,the institutional uncertainty is introduced into the environmental uncertainty.Based on the theory of dynamic capability and mental model,dynamic capability and market orientation are introduced.Secondly,based on the theoretical sampling principle,Lvyuan and DJI were selected as the case study objects.Through data collection and analysis,this research preliminarily explores the impact mechanism of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation of enterprises,and probes into the mediating role of dynamic capability and the moderating role of market orientation in the relationship between environmental uncertainty and disruptive innovation.Thirdly,based on the logical analysis of existing research,the corresponding assumptions are put forward.Finally,using the collected 467 valid questionnaire data,SPSS and Amos software were used to carry out descriptive statistical analysis,reliability test,exploratory factor analysis,confirmatory factor analysis,common method bias test and correlation analysis.On this basis,the structural equation model method is used to fit and test the theoretical model,and the research results are verified again through the robustness test.On the basis of inheriting existing research results,the conclusions and innovations of this research are mainly reflected in the following four aspects:(1)From the perspective of environmental uncertainty,based on the theory of social information processing,this study combines the objective external environment with the characteristics of managers,and studies the impact mechanism of environmental uncertainty perceived by managers on disruptive innovation of enterprises.The results show that technological uncertainty,market uncertainty and institutional uncertainty have positive effects on disruptive innovation.This study enriches the key antecedents of disruptive innovation,makes up for the lack of considering environmental uncertainty as a direct factor in existing innovation studies,and provides a new perspective for explaining the inconsistency between environmental uncertainty and innovation.(2)Based on the new institutional theory,this paper introduces institutional uncertainty into environmental uncertainty and expands the dimensions of environmental uncertainty.According to the sources of uncertainty,scholars mainly divide environmental uncertainty into technical uncertainty and market uncertainty.For China under the background of transition economy,institutional uncertainty occupies an important position.Therefore,this study enriches the connotation of environmental uncertainty and deepens the institutional basis for the strategic decision-making of disruptive innovation.In the same framework,this study also compares and analyzes the differential effects of technological uncertainty,market uncertainty and institutional uncertainty on disruptive innovation.The three factors have a positive impact on disruptive innovation,and the degree of impact is market uncertainty >technical uncertainty > institutional uncertainty.The existing research shows that different dimensions have different impacts on different types of innovation.This study better clarifies the mechanism of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation,and provides a direction for enterprises to carry out disruptive innovation in China.(3)This study integrates environmental uncertainty and dynamic capability theory,and analyzes the mediating role of dynamic capability.The results show that dynamic capabilities play a mediating role between technological uncertainty and disruptive innovation,and between market uncertainty and disruptive innovation.Although there have been a lot of studies on how dynamic capabilities affect enterprise innovation,there is still a lack of adequate explanation for disruptive innovation.This study further strengthens the systematization of the theoretical system of disruptive innovation,opens the "black box" of the impact of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation.It is of great significance for scholars to fully understand the mechanism of environmental uncertainty.It provides a micro knowledge foundation for the theoretical research on how environmental uncertainty transforms into disruptive innovation performance,and deepens the theoretical understanding of the path to achieve disruptive innovation.(4)Based on mental model theory,this study investigates the moderating effect of responsive market orientation and proactive market orientation on the relationship between environmental uncertainty and disruptive innovation,and clarifies the boundary conditions of technological uncertainty,market uncertainty and institutional uncertainty on disruptive innovation.The results show that proactive market orientation plays a positive moderating role between the three dimensions of environmental uncertainty and disruptive innovation,and provides a supportive context.Responsive market orientation only plays a negative moderating role between market uncertainty and disruptive innovation.This study breaks through the limitation that previous studies only explore the boundary conditions of disruptive innovation theory from external factors,deepens the application of market orientation in disruptive innovation theory.This study more precisely explains the situational factors of the impact of environmental uncertainty on disruptive innovation,and provides theoretical and practical guidance for enterprises to better use environmental uncertainty to implement and manage disruptive innovation. |
