In order to defend the flood and reduce the damage, it is necessary to collect the information of the extent, duration, water depth and flowrate of historical flood, how much damage it caused and where the flood control projects and the emergency path, spots locate. Then these data should be analyzed to acquire rapidly the information of where the flood will go, how far it will go and how much damage it would cause, thus to supply supporting information for flood control. In this paper we focus on the specific flood-defend requirement and geographic characteristics of the submerged area along Liao River, use ArcMap to organize the geographic information and then build up the terrain map of the area. The flood information data, which is the result calculated by MIKE software according to the simulation of flood approaching, is modified to match the coordinate of the terrain map.All processed data is put to a visual form.To assess the flood damage, we collect the economic statistics of the cities and countries along Liao River, then use ArcGIS spatial analysis function to make a quantitative estimation of the industrial and agricultural losses of the submerged area. The result is represented visually, too.In order to help the relevant management departments make hedging program in time, functions are designed to identify the flooding time and measure path distance. The results are very useful and helpful for flood control and evacuation arrangements. The flood information analysis in this paper is adopted in flood hazard mapping research of the left reaches of Liao River, the successful application shows that to analyze the flood data, to explore the hidden information and visualize the result, can be of great significance to flood protection and damage reduction.
