Electromagnetic theory is the creation of a 19th-century revolution in the history of science. It breaks through traditional concepts of physics and reveals the nature of electromagnetic phenomena. And it also predicts the existence of electromagnetic waves and caused causes the leap of Electronic Science and Technology. Quantum electrodynamics consists of Electromagnetism, relativity and quantum mechanics. Electromagnetics pay more attention on the discussions of physical potential and energy. But the study on vector potential is limited, it is also avoided.This subject is structured as follows. The first part analyzes the development process of the Electromagnetism. The application of modern electromagnetism is discussed. The second part describes basic physical quantities in electromagnetics. And it discusses the significance of vector potential of the magnetic in classical physics deeply. The third part studies the role the vector potential plays in quantum mechanics. The physical meaning of the vector potential is also introduced clearly. The fourth part describes the status quo of current physics teaching in university of home and abroad. And it also analyzes the significance of vector potential for the students who are from the University of Technology. Finally, the opinion about how to teach magnetic vector potential in university physics is shown. So the development of the teaching of electromagnetism will be promoted.
