China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) is composed of the accelerator, the target station, the spectrometer, and corresponding necessary service facilities. The accelerator is composed of a H- ion Linac and a fast cycle proton accelerator (PA). The capability of controlling the beam loss is a critical factor in designing the PA to meet the power requirement. Thus, the solution to the beam loss is in the first place and the large effort has been put on it for the PA.In this dissertation, the design and construction of the first prototype of the liquid scintillator detector for large current proton accelerator and CSNS fast beam loss monitor (FBLM) were introduced. The performances of the first prototype of liquid scintillator detector were tested with 137Cs 0.662MeVγray. The reasonable choices and correct settings for some parameters, such as the high voltage of photomultiplier tube, the magnification of spectroscopy amplifier, the shaping time, and so on were made. The cosmic rayμsignals are observed by the first prototype of liquid scintillator detector. The test results show us the first prototype of liquid scintillator detector works normally.The test results of the first prototype of liquid scintillator detector on Radio Frequency Quadruple (RFQ) show us that a beam chopping device can remove a 490ns section of beam at approximately 1MHz repetition rate within a 500μs macro beam pulse-width. The first prototype displays the measured beam pulse structure after the beam chopper. Through RFQ special beam structure the response time of first prototype is measured and its response time is about nano second.The fast time response of the first prototype of liquid scintillator detectors meets the FBLM time response requirement. All of these give us good experiences for the further improvement of liquid scintillator detector design and construction. According to the measurement data liquid scintillator is suggested as the detector of FBLM system.
