Through studies on the high resolution subbottom profiles, connected with shallow engineering drilling, this paper describes and gives evidence to the buried paleo-channels'seismic facies characteristics, sediment structure, scale, regional distribution, buried depth and development, and further, points out the relationship between development of the buried paleo-channels and the regional sea-level changes. There are abundant oil and gas resources at the shallow-sea area of north Liaodong Bay,which has great potential development value. the buried paleo-channels are widespread in this area,as a geologic factor of the unstable seafloor and one of the latent disastrous types, which have a great effect on the development of oil and gas resources. The forming and developing of marine geohazard is closely related to the environment. On the basis of collecting abundant environment and geological investigation material, this paper reveals the marine engineering environment characteristics of the study area from the next aspecs, such as hydrometeor, topography and geomorphy, deposited environment, acoustic atratigraphy, engineering geology and tectonic character etc. and then combined with the characteristics of the buried paleo-channels, the engineering geological disasters are evaluated, which may be related to the buried paleo-channels.
