The cyanobacteria Spirulina is a kind of valuable microalgae. It's especially rich, relative to other, in the polyunsaturated fatty acid y -linolenic acid(GLA), and in pigments such an phycocyanin, myxoxanthophyl and zeaxanthin. We investigated the extraction method for phycocyanin and polysaccharide from Spirulina and obtained the phycocyanin, polyunsaturated fatty acid, pigments, and crude polysaccharide, which can be used in food and/or medicine. The PC of spirulina, was extracted efficiently by the treatment with 10mM PH7.0 phosphate acid buffer were precipitated in 50%(NH4)2SO4 and then loaded on a hydroxylapatite column. The c-PC with a purified of 3(OD620/OD280 possesses absorption maximum at 620nm. The purified c-PC were electrophoresed under non-denaturing PAGE condition, only one band was observed. Under denaturing, c-PC yielded two colored polyptptides with the molecular 15kD and 14. 5kD for its a and (5 subunits, respectively. The yield of PC is about 200mg from 5g dried Spirulina.Marinate the rest in the 75% acetone for 12 hours and then extract with aether, the polyunsaturated fatty acid could be extracted from the resdue. The yield of polyunsaturated fatty acid was about 4.8% weight. After refluxed on 95% alcohol and dried, the pigments could be obtainedwhich were about 75 mg. At last, the crude polysaccharide was isolated from the leavings by hot water at 80 for 4 hours.
