The studies of lichenized fungus genus Xanthoria in China, based on 323specimens, were performed. The following five species are recognized in the presentthesis: Xanthoria alfredi, X. elegans, X. fallax, X. mandschurica, X. sorediata, and anew species X. guizhouensis. A key to the species from China and illustrations of themare also given. The descriptions of morphology, anatomy, chemistry, ecology, and geographical distribution of these species are done in the thesis. The isolation of mycobionts and phycobionts of some species from Xanthoria was performed. The analysis of the chemistry of lichen thalli and that of the corresponding mycobionts were carried out by method of TLC. The results showed that the chemical diversity of isolated mycobionts is richer than that of corresponding lichen thalli. So, the chemical diversity of isolated mycobionts seems to have more taxonomic value than that of the corresponding lichen thalli. In addition, the HPLC analysis of the chemistry of some species from Xanthoria was performed for the first time.
