Study on the plant volatiles is one of the important contents of chemecol- ogy. The plant volatiles' dynamic releasing characteristics of five gardening plants were investigated through two techniques: (1) volatiles were collected in Tenax-GR by the modified head-space collection; (2) volatiles were identified by thermodesorption and GC-MS. The study was based on the basal theories ofchemecology, instrumental analysis and statistics, at the same time the study also took ecology and environmental chemistry into consideration. The object of the study is to provide the scientific proof for the arrangement and management of gardening plants. The results show that: (1) Almost all kinds of plant volatiles releasing from Pinus tabulaeformis. Carr and other three plants reach their peaks in June or July respectively. It was proved that the volatiles releasing from sobaria kirIlowii(Regel)Maxim apartfrom hydrocarbons and nitrogen containing compounds reach their higher relea-sing intensities at 10 and 16 o,clock respectively, It was at 13 o,clock appearingthe releasing peaks of hydrocarbons and nitrogen containing compounds. There are some other volatiles having been identified from Pinus tabulaeformis. Carr and other three plants in June or July, which include some long-chain aliphatic compounds, aromatical compounds and some low volatility compounds with complicated structures. The kinds of nitrogen containing compounds was incre- aseed from sobaria kirIlowii(Regel)Maxim at 13 o,clock.(2) Through study on Pinus tabulaeformis. Carr and other three plants, we find the dynamic releasing characteristics of alcohols, aldehydes and esters have releation to the molecular saturation, molecular structures can also affect the terpenes' dynamic releasing characteristics. (3) The dynamic releasing characteristics of plant volatiles are affected by plant self and environmental factors. Plant self determines not only constitutes but also releasing intensities of plant volatiles. Environmental factors affect releasing intensities of plant volatiles, but this kind of effect exists discrepancy. ...
