It was radioimmunoassay (RIA) that we used to assay the five primary reproductive hormones (luteinazing hormone-LH, follicle stimulating hormone-FSH, estradiol-E2, progesterone-P and human chorionic gonadotrophin-hCG) levels in peripheral serum of the female Sika deer during estrus and early pregnancy. This experiment was performed from 2002 to 2003 at the Deer Farm of Songhua Lake's Experimental Forestry Farm. All the deer which we selected had every produced fawns and were fire and healthy. The serum samples were drawn from the veins below eye sockets of the deer, which had been fastened by the semiautomatic clipping-boarded device. This experiment was partitioned into two parts, that is, Team A and Team B. There were six female Sika deer chosen in Team A. After being confirmed that they had all been in heat, they were separated that one half of them were made to copulate with the breeding deer and the other half were not to be comparison. The serum samples of these six deer were respectively collected for three times. In Team B there were four female Sika deer pregnant all, from which we obtained serum samples to analyze the five reproductive hormones' concentration and the variation change during the early pregnancy (2~38d). The results of the studies are as followings:1.The levels of LH, FSH, P and hCG of the estrum and pregnancy female deer during the period 2nd~6th days after the deer had been in heat did not show and significant change (P>0.05).2. The estradiol concentration on the 4th day and the 6th day after estrum were all significantly higher than that on the 2nd day (P<0.05). But they didn't show any significant change to each other (P>0.05).3. The pregnancy female deer's LH, E2, and hCG levels also showed no significant variation (P>0.05).4. FSH levels showed two significant changes (P<0.05). One was occurred on the 14th day after pregnancy compared with the 30th and 38th day.5. Form the beginning of pregnancy, the concentration of progesterone was gradually increasing with the time went by. After appearing a high peak of the first phase on the 14th day, the concentration began to reduce until the 26th day, when showed a lowpeak. Then the levels rose rapidly. There appeared the highest peak on the 34th day6. The concentration on the 34th day after pregnancy can be the optimum serum collecting time for the early pregnancy diagnosis. What we studies on the five primary reproductive hormones levels in peripheral of the female Sika deer during the early pregnancy would be serviced for the essential studies on the reproductive endocrinology of Sika deer and the early diagnosis of pregnancy, the appraisal of estrus and the other reproductive technologies.
