Main progress in one challenging subject of nonlinear science-chaos and chaos control in nonlinear system are reviewed systematically. Methods and principles of chaos control at present are classified and summarized in detailed. Potential prospects for application are commented both in theory and in experiment. On these bases, a continuous state feedback (CSF) method is proposed to control nonlinear chaos system. Mixed-optical bistableC MOB )chaos system is taken as a typical example to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method. Construction foundation, control principle and control parameters' selections of CSF control method are presented. The dynamics behaviors of controlled MOB system are analyzed by computer numerical simulation using MATLAB software. The control results show that appropriately selecting control parameters not only can control the unstable periodic orbits embedded in initial chaos system to stable periodic orbits, but can control chaos system to other desired periodic orbits. The power spectrum of the controlled system is also changed from the continuous spectrum into the discrete spectrum with some single peaks. Control speed of CSF method is fast and stability is high, \P.2P.3P 2mP 3nP( m,nare integer)various stable periodic orbits can be expediently obtained. CSF method is effective on controlling low and high periodic orbits.
