The paper mainly researches the relationship between photonic band gap and scattering characters of single period. For one dimension (ID) photonic crystal, the center position and width of photonic band gap can be estimated based on the reflected energy curve which is computed by transfer matrix method. And for 2D photonic crystal, taking square lattice and TM plane wave for example, the center position and width of photonic band gap also can be estimated by using multi scattering method. So, some important characters such as the center position and width of photonic band gap can be known according to scattering characters of single period. It is convenient for us to get properties of photonic crystal without large numerical calculation.Given a photonic crystal with an omni directional band gap, some of the most interesting phenomena occur when the crystal is broken by introducing defects. A defect is anything that breaks the usual periodicity of the crystal, but most typically falls into one of two classes: point defects, which create resonant cavities; and line defects, which create wave guides. In both cases, the key point is that a defect can support modes that lie inside the band gap of the bulk crystal, and that these modes are localized in the vicinity of the defect. Light can propagate even rum comer in wave guide.
