Research & Practice On The Terrain Texture Of The Virtual Geographic Environments

With the development of technology and the advance of human's recognize, the technology of virtual reality has been applied extensively in the area of military, medicine, design and amusement ect. It changes the way of human's thought, study, work and amusement. It presents a infinite space of imagine and creates a realistic virtual world to the man.In the practice of using the technology of virtual reality to carry out the terrain environment simulation, the texture technology is the important means to describe the detail of the terrain's surface and to improve the reality of terrain environment. The author discusses the simulation of terrain texture theoretically and practically after analyzing and studying the interrelated research results in this paper, and then, brings forward a method and a project on the generation of terrain texture based on the map data.The author introduces the development of texture technology first, and then brings forward a method to generate the terrain texture based on the map data. This mathod is designed based on Photoshop. The method could automatically generate terrain texture through the Microsoft OLE Automation because Photoshop is an automation server with a lot of filters by which could build rich and colorful texture effects. This method has been applied extensively because of its implementing easily, representing the element of ground clearly and the well vision effect. Otherwise the author researches and practises elementarily on generating terrain texture using arithmetic.
