Three dimensional terrain models can always be important parts in Geographic Infomation System(GIS),digital city and Virtual Reality(VR) .etc, is a hot point that study at home and abroad currently.This thesis study around the construction and visualization methods of three dimensional terrain and texture multiresolution models,inquirying into some valid techniques and method. This thesis studied the principles of Progressive Mesh(PM) model, and improved on the method of side error in PM,the improvement method not only in brief,but also attain good simplification result. Based on the Direct3D library, Inquiried in the way of multiresolution terrain model,and carried out the terrain files saveing and visualization quickly. And we adopted the image division and image compress techniques, carried out the method of construct multiresolution texture model. Lastly,the author still studied the dynamic visualization techniques for multiresolution terrain model,building up efficiently quadtree index structures of space,eye position predict mechanism and view frustum culling method,The experiment proved the accuracy and the usefulness of the method.
