As a Intersectional Science, GIS(Geographic Information System)is erected on the base of Computer Science, Topography, Remote Sensing Geography, Environmental Science, Spatial Science,Informatics and Managing Science .Now ,GIS is drawing more and more people's attention and used widely in city planning, market managing, resource researching, environment monitoring and analysis, land resource managing, forest monitoring and managing, estimating the yield of crops, fire alarming, traffic and safety managing, electrical net managing and so on. With the promotion of the west development and the overall developing of land resource survey, deep investigation of area geological survey, geological information has become gradually huge, and geological data plays increment rapidly, The storage method of paper quality maps and medium carriers hard satisfies the development demand in the process of area geological survey. For the sake of full, quick, and effective use of the basic geological data available, to output geological result, we must build up the area geological survey database. But it is very difficult to use common data-management technique based on relation database to the geological data because of their distinct spatial features and complex configurations. Newly developed computer technique of Geographic Information System (GIS) is particularly suitable for collection, description, analysis and modeling of spatial data of the Earth. Thus, developing powerful geological database system based on advanced GIS technique is one of the fundamental approaches to manage geologic data using computer techniques for modern geosciences. First, the paper combines the achievements of the monographic study in Tibet Menba regional geology investigation project(scale:1:250,000).On the basis of fully collecting and using the predecessor's information, the article expounds the basic the on of Geographic Information System(GIS),On the base of the construction target and the system need analyses of the system, designs an area geological survey application system on GIS. The paper, bases on the summarization of the leading feature, analyses function and main content of the system. The paper also gives a detailed description of design idea, techniques and foundation methods. This system gives by the article accords with the standardization of software engineering and discusses some remarkable problems when one do so. In the work of area geological survey, a great deal of data will be collected, the data type can be divided into the space data and attribute data, All these various data involved in the actual work should be generalized to establish a database. One is space database that connects with each other with the image sketch, it is expressed with the point, the line and the polygon, includes various new special subject diagram, the synthesized map, the evaluated map and the program map etc. Another type is attribute database that connects with each other with the non-space information, the data is saved with the form of a form. Different space data is deposited in different layers respectively according to attribute, attribute data list is opposite with the query data in each of sub-system. All data lists are founded in the database, include the data, data layer, the sub-system, the type query information etc. ,and build up the connection according to the geography position and other assistances characteristics at the space database and attribute database. The area geological survey data is varied, the capacity is huge, the data processing is complicated, so the design adopts the module. From the structure the system is divided into the system management, the image database management, the graphics database management, attribute database management, the statistics statement, model analysis, the help elucidation, the information issue etc. and different module can adjust to use each other. The program design with module can make the software structure clear, easy to design and comprehend, convenient to debug and modify, and strengthen the security. The development efficiency of software is enhanced.
