The chemical constituents of the red algae Hypnea charoides and Galaxaura filamentosa have been studied in this dissertation. Three new compounds are found from Hypnea charoides,and the chemical constituents of Hypnea charoides arestudied for the first time in this dissertation.Seventeen compounds are isolated from the red algae Hypnea charoides collected from South China Sea .Nine pure compounds and six sterols have been isolated and identified by spectra as:(2R,1'S,2'S,3'R)-N-[1'-(β-D- glucopyranos-yloxy)methyl-2',3'-dihydroxy-heptadecenyl]-2-hydroxy-12,13-methylene-Tetraco sanamide(1);(2R,1'S,2'S,3'R)-N-(1'-hydroxymethyl-2',3'-dihydrox-heptadecenyl)-2 -hydroxy-12,13-methylene-Tetracosanamide(2);(2R, 1'S,2'S,3'R)-N-(1'-hydroxymeth yl)-2',3 '-dihydroxy-heptadecenyl)-2-hydroxy-12,13-methylene-Tetracosanamide(3);st igmast-5,22-dien-3β-ol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(4); 1-O-hexan-oyl-glycerolester (5); palmitic acid (6);docosane(7); 3,6-dimethyl-8-(4-methyleneheptan-3-yloxy)octane-1-amine(8); palmitate-K(9);six single hydroxyl sterols (10).All these compounds were first found from the Hypnea charoides. Compound 1, compound 2 and compond 8 are new ones,and the two compounds containing a cyclopropane were quite unusual.One glycoglycerolipids compounds have been isolated and identified from the red algae Galaxaura filamentosa collected from South China Sea as: 1,2-O-twi(palmitoyl)-3-O-β-D-galactopyranosylglycerol(11).Glycosphingolipids,steroidal glycosides and glycoglycerolipids are physiological activities. The studies on the chemical constituents of the red algae Hypnea charoides and Galaxaura filamentosa fit with the need of researching about marine natural products.
