The paper summarized domestic and foreign taxonomic research and practical importance of Pholiota, and mainly worked on the taxonomy of the Pholiota fungi from China and the resource investigation of those.Comparing the macro- and micro-characteristics of the genus Pholiota and others related genera, the author held that the genus Kuehneromyces and Flammula should belong to the genus Pholiota.Through examining the macro and micro characteristics of the 443 specimens being deposited in Mycological Herbarium of Microbiology Institute the Chinese Academy of Science (HMAS), Herbarium of Cryptogams, Kunming Institute of Botany Academy of Science, Mycological Herbarium of Microbiology Institute Guangdong Academy of Science (HMIGD) and Mycological Herbarium of Mycological Institute of Jilin Agriculture University (HMJAU), the author reported 32 species of the genus Pholiota from China in this paper, including 2 new to China and 10 new to several provinces in China.Kuehneromyces mutabilis (Schaeff. et Fr.) Singer et Smith and Phaeomarasmius erinaceellus (Pk.) Singer were placed in Pholiota. Pholiota albocrenulata (Pk.) Sacc, Pholiota johnsoniana (Pk.) Atk., Pholiota elongatipes (Pk.) Smith et Hesl. and Pholiota myosotis (Fr.) Sing, were still placed in Pholiota. Gymnopilus luteofolius (Pk.) Sing, and Kuehneromyces rostratus R. Singer et A. H. Smith were placed in Pholiota as new records, respectively as Pholiota luteofolia (Pk.) Sacc. and Pholiota veris ( R. Singer et A. H. Smith ) A. H. Smith et L. R. Hesler. Pholiota aurivella (Fr.) Kumm., Pholiota squarroso-adiposa Lange and Pholiota terrigena (Fr.) Karst. were independent species. Pholiota malicola (Kauff.) A. H. Smith was treated as a synonym of Pholiota alnicola (Fr.) Sing.. Pholiota adipose (Fr.) Kumm. and Pholiota subamara Smith & Hesl. were new records of Guangdong Province. Pholiota albocrenulata (Pk.) Sacc, Pholiota alnicola (Fr.) Sing.and Pholiota squarroso-adiposa Lange were new records of Heilongjiang Province. Pholiota fulvella (Pk.) Smith et Hesl. and Pholiota terrigena (Fr.) Karst. were new records of Inner Mongolia. Pholiota highlandensis (Pk.) Smith et Hesl. was a new record of Yunnan Province. Pholiota lubrica (Fr.) Sing, and Pholiota mutabilis (Fr.) Kumm. were new records of Sichuan Province. Pholiota terrigena (Fr.) Karst. was a new record of Xinjiang. Pholiota caperata (Pers.: Fr.) Gill, was placed in Rozites. The species being placed in Gymnopilus were Pholiota cerasina(Pk.) Sacc, Pholiota junonia (Fr.) Karst. and Pholiota spectabilis (Fr.) Gill.. Pholiotapraecox (Pers.) Kumm.was placed in Agrocybe. Pholiota rugosa (Pk.) Singer was placed in Pholiotina. Pholiota aurea (Mattusch. ex Fr.) Gill, was placed in Phaeolepiota. Pholiota confragosa (Fr.) Karst. was placed in Tubaria.Differences among related species were compared, micro-characteristic were drawn, synonyms were studied and a key about subgenus and species of Pholiota were listed in this paper. The spore walls of Pholiota species and related genera ones were studied by SEM. Those of Pholiota species are always smooth or slightly rough. Those of the related genera ones have apparent ornament. In addition, the author held that Gymnopilus cerasina and G. spectabilis were different species because of different ornament of the spore wall.
