Multi-representation for geographical phenomenon is one of the research focuses in the field of multi-scale spatial database. It provides GIS users with different details of geographical phenomenon, ranging from whole to parts and overview to details, in order for spatial analysis, visualization and geo-processes of geographical entities at required scales. Multi-representation is also a requirement of QoGIS (Quality of Geospatial Information Service) for incremental transmission and adaptive visualization of geographical phenomenon at given resolutions. This paper discusses the organization of multi-representation vector data and its adaptive visualization theoretically and practically based on a review of related research works.1. Analyze and probe into the concept and model of multi-representation spatial data, and key technologies of organization and adaptive visualization;Research and analyze the developments in the field of multi-scale processing and representation of spatial data. The paper has put forward the model of multi-representation spatial data, according to the concept of multi-representation spatial data. Analyze the organization and management of multi-representation spatial database. Introduce the network service technologies for adaptive visualization: network GIS, network programming and XML/GML.2. Research and design the organization of multi-representation spatial database, adaptive visualization of spatial data, and realize a prototype system.Study the automated generalization methods and make use of Douglas-Peucker algorithm to simplify line features. According to the weightiness of the feature attributes to generate multi-representation maps. The relationship of generated map and scale is based on the regulation of extracting root. Research the organization of multi-representation of vector data in database, focusing on line features. Study the adaptive visualization system of spatial data based on network GIS. Adopt the vector data increment transmission method to display data on client with the method of caching technology. This approach can alleviate the web burden and data redundancy. Design and realize the system software, make use of the experiment data to verify the validity and feasibility of the theories and methods studied on.
