The contemporary capitalism is typically characteristic of putting modern science and technology into industrial production extensively to establish the capitalist merchandise economy. Its foundation roots deeply in the development of modern science and technology. Western Marxism, born in 20's in the 20th century and grew up rapidly, has a deep cognition towards it. Many Western Marxists particularly concern about science and technology, because they are fairly aware that it is impossible to give a right and complete criticism to the modern capitalist society without a full understanding of how the science and technology to be used in it.It is an unquestioning fact that modern science and technology greatly propels the society forwards and enhances the social productivity. For example, it brings people the plentiful material civilization, satisfying the material need that modern people increasingly want. It furthers people's cognition and strengthens people's ability. However, the mass of common people in developed capitalist society did not get any virtual liberation and real happiness from the progress of modern science and technology. On the one hand, people live in a seriously polluted natural environment in which ecosystem became out of balance. Nature takes revenge madly on mankind's conquering. On the other hand, science and technology should fundamentally serve for relieving the human being's hard working. On the contrary, it made people in modern social tired, even tortured both physically and mentally. Its improper use led people to a new totalitarian social environment that torments people and causes alienation.Western Marxist's theories of science and technology did notmerely figure out the phenomena about negative effects of the environmental problems and alienation in modern society. They looked into it to find out the basic reason that science and technology is used to serve for the political rules. In order to keep the massive people in bondage, to control the ideological field, the ruling class in modern developed as well as industrialized society argues in favor of the rationality for ruling. Because the modern industrialized capitalist society is rightly based on the mighty productivity of the advanced science and technology.
