DEM is the core content of National Foundation Geographical Information Database andthe basic of digital terrain analysis in GIS. The data of various dimensions DEM givepowerful support to quantification research of geomorphology and greatly improve thevelocity and precision of geomorphology research.As one part of "China 1:1000,000 Digital Geomorphology", this article mainly exploringthe basic concept of relief character information, theory and analysis means of spatial datamining from DEM.On the basis of former research, to make a systemic conclusion to refining principle andways of geomorphology character information. Meanwhile, on the basis of relief shapedividing system in researching areas, to definite the Slope, Relief Amplitude, the Earth'sSurface Incision, Roughness and the Length of Ridge and Valley as characterization factorand abstract these characterization factors.The research indicates that in the area of HeiHe, the best statistics unit for measuringRelief Amplitude and the Earth's Surface Incision is 9km2.At the same time, plan curvatureresearching provides an effective way to abstract the Length of Ridge and Valley.It is believed that through the research of abstracting ways to relief information character,'China 1:1000,000 Digital Geomorphology' will provide a new technical way and the divisionof geomorphology shape will get quantification standard and some other foundation.
