The Design And Implementation Of National Topographic Map Generalization System With Basic Scales

In this paper, the functions of map generalization based on ArcGIS, are discussed, besides, the technology associated with map generalization and compilation is given in detail. The objective is to implement the automatic generalization of topographic map, as possible as intelligent. Firstly, the history and development of cartographic generalization and the signification of research is analyzed, and the author introduces the framework and function of ArcGIS, the possibility to realize map generalization based on ArcGIS is discussed. Secondly, according to the weakness of map generalization functions in ArcGIS, several methods of topographic map generalization and the related technology is put out. In the end, the design and implementation of the national topographic map generalization system with the basic scales is introduced in detail, including the introduction of this system, development environment, general design, models design and flowcharts of cartographic generalization of each feature, etc.
