Study On The Project Management Mode Of CCSD

Employing modern deep drilling techniques, Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling (CCSD) Project is to drill a 5000 meter deep hole in the eastern part of Dabie-Sulu ultra-high pressure metamorphic (UHPM) belt that has global geoscientific significance. The scientific objective is to reconstruct the forming and exhumation mechanisms of the UHPM belt by interpretation of the analyzed data from the drill core, liquid and gas samples taken from the hole, the in-situ logging data and information. The further aims are to reveal the deep materials constitution of the convergent plate margin, its mineralization and fluid action, and to establish a deep laboratory for long-term observation and a base for research on deep crust materials. This project was listed in July 1997 as one of the National Key Science Engineering Projects in the period of the ninth Five-Year-Plan by the State Science and Technology Leading Group, and on May 7, 1998 as one of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Projects by the International Continental Drilling Program (ICDP). The project, which started in 2000, will last five years.Continental Scientific Drilling is a comprehensive systems engineering related to different disciplines and different fields. It needs not only modern earth science and drilling engineering technologies but also modern management theory. So, it is very realistic and necessary to make a systemic study on the project management mode of CCSD on the basis of the organizational theory and the popular theory and methods of project management in the world. The innovation of this thesis is the systemic summary of the project management mode of CCSD and its project management experiences.Chapter 1 has summarized the background of the project and analyzed the purpose and the meanings of this study. There are not available project management experiences neither domestically nor internationally. So it is very realistic to make a systemic study on the management mode of CCSD and conclude its project management experiences. Then the thesis analyzes the feasibility and the value of this study by summarizing the development of theories and practices of domestic and international project management. At last the research approach and main contents of this thesis are summarized.Chapter 2 has analyzed the current domestic and international situation in large scientific project management.
