Objective: To investigate the association between the G(-1023)A polymorphism in the 5'-regulatory region of β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) gene and essential hypertension (EH) in Kazakh and Uygur population in Xinjiang province. And compare the distribution of genotype and allele frequencies in two ethnic groups. Methods: 186 Kazakh subjects with essential hypertension and 171 Kazakh subjects of normotensive (NT) were recruited from the pastoral area of balikun county of Xinjiang. 160 Uygur subjects with essential hypertension and 193 subjects of normotensive were recruited from the rural area of Tuluafan of Xinjiang. The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used for the detection of P2-AR genotype. Results : The genotypes of the variants were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in two ethnic groups. GG,AG,AA genotypes' frequencies were 31.8%,54.1%,14.1% and 40.9%,40.9%, 18.2% in Kazakh and Uygur normotensives, respectively. Significant difference were seen between Kazakh and Uygur normotensive subjects.(P<0.05);The frequencies of genotype and allele in EH group was not significantly different from NT group in Kazakh population, but according to the degree of blood pressure, there are association between the genotypes and severe hypertension (P<0.05). The frequencies of genotype and allele in EH group was not significantly different from NT...
