Along with the high-speed growth of the national economy, the nation's need of energy has been rising significantly. Many big domestic well logging companies have put on the pace of the research with the energy detecting device. The Rotary Sidewall Coring Tool (RSCT), with its special method of coring and lots of advantages comparing to other common methods, is favored by well logging companies more and more. However, our country relatively falls behind on the research of RSCT. Most of the devices produced are just making copy of the abroad devices of the same type. There are many problems, such as low dependability and low rate of success in coring, which make RSCT hard to be popularized and applied.In this article, taking the RSCT of the Halliburton company as a special case, the problems of existing RSCT, such as quick attrition of pairs, low performance in core breaking, lack of automatically unlocking, low successful rate in coring and so on, are analyzed. A new type of RSCT is designed, studied and analyzed thoroughly in the article.Firstly, a new project of rotary sidewall coring with the technology of hydraulic power is presented. All the pairs in the project are lower pairs, which can solve the problem of low output force and quick attrition, caused by using higher pairs in existing RSCT. In the project, the four parts including pushing mechanism, drilling mechanism, core breaking mechanism, core pushing mechanism, are controlled separately, which can make the core broken easily.Secondly, the structure design of the RSCT and the mechanics analysis are present in the article. The hydraulic system of the RSCT is designed, basing on the appropriate selection of electromotor, hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic pump and control valve.Thirdly, the 3-D simulation model of the RSCT is designed by Pro/E and through kinematical simulation by ADAMS, the practicability and rationality of RSCT is proved in the article.Finally, through studying the additional functions of the RSCT, the auxiliary functions of automatically unlocking, anti-sticking on power failure for the self-...
