The spider family Agelenidae C. L. Koch, 1837, with a conspicuous, common Funnel-webs feature, is familiar vegetation-dwelling spiders of China. The family is one of important groups of Araneae, and as well significant natural enemy of vermin in the farmland and forest.According to the catalogue of Platnick (2006), Agelenidae spiders are now represented by 39 genera and 503 species worldwide, including 4 genera and 22 species known occurring in China. The present dissertation deals with the systematics of Agelenidae spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) from China. Four primary parts are included:Part I deals with the general information of the family Agelenidae, and its morphology and taxonomy. Part II reported the result of a detailed study of 25 species belonging 4 genera, including six type specimens (Agelena cymbiforma, A. otiforma, A. poliosata, A. sangzhiensis, A. sublimbata and Benoitia agraulosa). Three Agelena species are new to science: A. abnormalis sp. nov., A. sternsepta sp. nov. and A. zayuensis sp. nov. A. sublimibata Wang, 1991 is revalidated and A. gracilens C. L. Koch, 1841 is newly recorded from China. The species A. micropunctala Wang, 1992 (holotype female) is considered as a synonym of A. poliosata Wang, 1991. Redescriptions, illustrations, specimens examined and geography data are given to each type and new species, the others have relatively detailed descriptions. Closely related and easily confused species are discussed. Partâ…¢includes results and discussion of all Agelenidae genera. Partâ…£containt detailed morphological figures of type and new species.1. Agelena Walckenaer, 1805Type species: Araneus labyrinthicus Clerck, 1757, generotype by elimination. The spider genus Agelena was established by C. Walckenaer (1805) to accommodate Araneus labyrinthicus Clerck, 1757. The most remarkable characteristics of Agelena species are both eye rows strongly procurved and PLS...
