Research On GIS Human-Computer Interface Usability Appraisal

With the development of computer hardware, software technology, especially the development of network technology, application of GIS has been gradually extended to the national economic construction, and it appeared various GIS applications. Such as the GIS system of urban planning, the GIS system of property management, the GIS system of environment and land management, and so on. A successful GIS system can not exist without a friendly user media, the user media system is communicating between the users and the media, but in the current GIS development process, people pay less attention to consider and design it individually, and they also rarely test and evaluate to the usability of user media. HCI is a study on the design and evaluation of computer-based systems, thus these systems can be the easiest used by human beings, availability of the evaluation study is a very important problem, through the evaluation will help us to understand the users' needs and find that the problem from the HCI in the system, thereby establishing a better user media, to improve the system's availability, efficiency and user satisfaction.This paper cite the HCI usability evaluation into the design and development of GIS system , combined the characteristics of GIS system which is interaction between the human beings and computer, the first of all, bring forward three principles of designing the GIS HCI user media; Secondly, start from the definition of availability, according to availability of quality indicators, combined the analysis of user media's characteristics in the HCI, establishing GIS HCI availability of quality indicators. And through HCI usability evaluation Methods, according to GIS HCI availability of quality indicators, to improve the available existing evaluation methods, and put forward two available evaluation methods based on the mandate of the GOMS level quantitative model and Questionnaire of users interaction Satisfaction(QUIS); At last, based on the mandate of the GOMS level quantitative model and QUIS to set an GIS example -- evaluation the availability of Nanjing Property GIS system and Lishui transparent property selling system , certify the evaluation methods.This paper has several primary research results, as following:(1) Through analysis the characteristics of user media in the GIS HCI, bring forward the principles of design in the GIS HCI.(2) Start from the definition of availability, combined with characteristics of GIS HCI, establishing GIS HCI availability of quality indicators System.(3) Compared with various evaluation methods for availability, according to GIS HCI availability of quality indicators, put forward GIS HCI availability evaluation method. (4) Improve the existing GOMS model, bring forward the GOMS level quantitative model based on the mandate, according to GIS HCI availability of quality indicators, designed the structure of QUIS questionnaire which is fit for the characteristics of GIS system.(5)Set a GIS example for property-- evaluation the availability of Nanjing property GIS system and Lishui transparent property selling system, certify the evaluation methods.
