The measurement of rainfall precipitation is an important link of water circulation monitoring measurement on earth and is an important part of water resource utilization. With the rapid development of hydrological information technology, traditional means of rainfall measurement has not met the requirement of automatic collection, solid memory and remote measurement of rainfall information, otherwise, tipping bucket rain gauge can make digitalization of rainfall information in real time.However, tipping bucket rain gauge shows many drawbacks in the application in hydrological and meteorological station due to its flaws in its structure and working principles. For example: the ratio of measurement precision is comparatively bad, the measurement error is subject to rain intensity and stochastic factors. These drawbacks have an influence on the quality of rain data. Therefore, the rain data can't be permitted to have access to rain database.The research of this paper focused on tipping bucket gauge. At first, the structure and working principles of tipping bucket gauge were analyzed and the tipping bucket mathematical model was made to decide the size of down-radius of tipping bucket. Then, based on analysis of error sources of tipping bucket gauge, the experiment on error analysis was designed, by which the relation between error and stochastic factors, rain intensity and slope angle of tipping bucket. Finally, based on combination of advantage of tipping bucket gauge and siphon gauge and modern electronic technology, the measure of error amendment of tipping bucket gauge was put forward. The ratio of measurement precision was raised by large margin by application of this measure in measuring stochastic rainfall. This error amendment measure has a broad respective in rainfall measurement.
