Sea surface wind plays an important role in the fields of oceanography and meteorology. In the paper, the wind temporal and spatial characteristics in the Northwest Pacific are analysed with QuikSCAT scatterometer and Jason-1 altimeter wind data, on the base of being validated validity by buoy wind data. And the change of sea surface temperature during typhoon Saomai (2006) is discussed with MODIS SST data.In the first, by contrasting QuikSCAT scatterometer and Jason-1 altimeter wind data with the buoy wind data, the results reveal the well pertinence, and that mean variation and mean absolute error are both small, so the wind data by remote sensing are practicable. Secondly, the results of analyzing monthly average wind figures and the gale frequency figures over the Northwest Pacific indicate that coastwise regions are controlled by monsoon and that the wind speeds in the middle east of the Northwest Pacific transform with the latitude direction. The wind rose charts of the nine regions illustrate the changing characteristic of the speed and frequency of the first and second wind directions. Thirdly, an empirical orthogonal function (EOF) method is employed to study the temporal and spatial patterns of the Northwest Pacific wind field. The results indicate that annual cycles dominate the two leading EOF modes and the third mode shows that wind speed transforms with the latitude direction distributing. In the end, sea surface temperature in fore-and-aft typhoon Saomai is discussed with MODIS SST data. Strongly upright mixing seawater caused by fierce windstorm results in sea surface temperature descending. After typhoon passes, sea surface wind calms down,sea surface temperature rises gradually and approaches the temperature before typhoon.
