With the development of economy, the contradiction between the growth of traffic volume and the traffic condition is becoming prominently, traffic congestion has greatly restricted the development of urban economy. The research on multi-lane traffic flow can not only benefit the establishment of security, efficient urban transport network, but also improve the situation of road congestion. Meanwhile, the study of traffic flow stability is also advantageous to the realization of maximizing traffic flow. Thus, it provides theory and methods to the building of Intelligent Transportation System. This thesis consists mainly of two parts:Firstly, by the analysis of city's traffic situation, it is easy to find that a lot of traffic flow control research focused mainly on single-lane and the study of a multi-lane is not enough in-depth. In view of this, new model and method are proposed in this paper. Based on a review on the urban traffic problems and the researches on them, a more in-depth study of multi-lane traffic control has been conducted. New approaches and feasible algorithms are proposed for the control problems in different scenarios that include two kinds of vehicle on two-lanes, or three kinds of vehicle on two-lanes. Meanwhile, a general approach is proposed for the traffic flow control problem with multi-kind vehicles on multi-lane. A sufficient condition is derived for maximizing traffic flow in condition of traffic flow control model.Secondly, the construction of urban traffic network must consider not only the full use of the road, but also the vehicle speed and road safety. The stability analysis of multi-lane traffic flow is advantageous to solve the problems concerning multi-lane traffic flow, and provides theoretical support for the construction of the traffic network. Under the some assumptions, through strict reasoning and numerical calculation in computer, in chapter three the sufficient conditions are derived for the stability of discrete traffic flow model, which enrich the theory and research methods for multi-lane traffic flow.
