In china, a special type of landslide in the Three Gorges reservoir area and the Sichuan basin is commonly attributed. This type of landslide mostly occurred in the rock area which is composed by the near horizontal sandstones and mudstones. The dip of rock is usually vary from 3 degree to 5 degree, with the maxium is less than 10 degree. A lot of landslides can be classified into this kind of landslide, for instance, the Peace square landslides group in Wanzhou city Three Gorges Reservoir Area, the Maliuzui landslide group in Chongqing city, the Fengdian landslides in Sichuan province, the Tiantai village landslides in Xuanhan country, Chengdu to Nanchong highway landslide. The landslides are named translational gliding landslides. The slide surface is often horizon and glide translationally when the heavy rainfalls occur. The driven forces of the landslide are hydrostatic-pressure and uplift pressure. The results of the research show the friction angle of the slid zone soils is larger than the dip angle of the slide surface. According to the traditional limiting equilibrium theory, it is nearly impossible for such a huge landslide to occur in the horizontal rock slope, even in the counter-inclined rock slope. In this case, the mechanism of translational landslides has been debated for a long time. Under lots of engineering practice issues, Zhuoyuan Zhang, Lansheng Wang and some other scholars believed that this type of landslide often occurs in the near horizontal layered slopes which process a slipping-pressure crack or creeping -crack deformation, and the slope should characteristic by obtaining intermittent fracture water and dynamic artesian water. According to in-depth analyses such especial geological phenomenon and examine up thesis, practice analysis, physical modeling analysis and discrete element analysis. The study simulated a deformation process of landslide under the hydrostatic-pressure which are brought by fracture water in rock and uplift pressure on slide surface. It calculated the critical head pressure when the landslide started, as well as the common characters in aspects of the geological fabric, deformation, failure, etc. Furthermore, it considers the special genetic mechanism of translational landslide, it is necessary to design and engineer measures to control surface run-off and groundwater and to prevent further reactivation of the landslide.Based on the deformation and failure analysis of this type of landslide, we found there are varying width troughs at the crown of the landslide. Therefore, it is very necessary to build channels for drainage surface water and groundwater to control landslide. In the end, it analyzed the effect of drainage engineer of Tenaha landslide by using there dimension software 3D MODFLOW, and further verified that the layout of drainage engineer are perfect.
