The petroleum geology character, fracture system, history of tectonic movement and facies character of southern step faults in Gaoyou Sag, Jiangsu Oilfield is studied and analyzed in detail. By using high resolution sequence stratigraphy theory and technique, chronostratigraphic sequence framework is established and finely compared. By using the theory of hydrocarbon reservoir-forming dynamics, the dynamic background of Gaoyou Sag basin is analyzed. Aiming at the sedimentation, structural evolvement and space-time spread rule in Gaoyou Sag, the reservoir-forming conditions, formation, storage, cover, transition, trap, conservation and the characters of pore fluid pressure are studied. By applying logging, seismic exploration and pressure data, the pore fluid pressure and fluid potential, the transition of hydrocarbon reservoir-forming dynamics character are analyzed. The main plays are anatomized, and the hydrocarbon reservoir-forming condition, models and rules are studied. Based on the study results, the favorable progressive exploration targets of three third order structural areas in southern step faults are recommended the methods of increasing production, progressive exploration and favorable traps.
