Numerical computation of the flow around two square cylinders arrangedside-by-side draws from Interference effects of wind loads of a cluster of tallbuildings. It is difficult to solve the Navier-Stokes equations which express thisphenomenon. It has been a developing tendency to numerically simulate this complexmodel with the help of computer, because of the computer technology is experiencingfast development.In this thesis, we study three-dimensional incompressible flow field around twosquare cylinders arranged side-by-side using a CFD software FLUENT and analyzedthe result in detail. The basic concepts, formulas, models and numerical methods areintroduced first. The LES model and the SIMPLE method for solving incompressibleflow field are emphasized on. We firstly solve the classical case of the flow past asingle square cylinder with Reynolds number at 22000 to test the reliability of theFLUENT software and to prove the advantage of LES model. And then we computethe flow around two square cylinders in side-by-side arrangement with low and highReynolds numbers. The results show that both Reynolds numbers and the value ofdistance between two square cylinders will affect the flow fields. But the effect of thevalue of distance between two square cylinders is much stronger than that of theReynolds number. The results identify that when the value is less than the criticalspacing (approximate 2.5), the gap flow between two cylinders in biased to one sidein a period of stable manner; while the value is larger than the critical spacing, thefield of flow is in a unstable manner.
