With the development of Spatial Remote Sensing Technology, the amount of remote sensing data and computation has increased greatly. The traditional method of image storing, processing and publication based on stand-alone system can not meet with application needs. On the other hand, with the rapid development of Web technology, expecially the more and more widely application of Web Services as a mode of distributed computation, the new chance to processing and publication of great capacity remote sensing image was given.Following the research route: bringing forward the problems→analyzing the actuality→demonstrating the theory and technology→solving the problem→proving in practice, this paper probed in how to process and publish the great capacity remote sensing image on Web. First of all, based on relative theory, the development and universal technologies of image processing was summarized, and some problems in remote sensing data, process algorithm were analyzed, and then the importance of distributed processing was pointed out. Then, based on the layer of technology, current main technologies of distributed processing, supporting technology for implement Web Service (SOAP, WSDL and UDDI) were introduced, and then a solution based on SOAP message passing put forward. At last, according to the character of great capacity image data and Web, technologies of ASP.NET, Web Services distributed processing , CSS and JavaScript were used to design a Web Services distributed processing and publication system for remote sensing image based on three-layered framework.In this paper, the system structure of great capacity image networking processing and publishing system was studied; the distributed processing procedure of Web Service image and transferring variables between pages were introduced in details. Web Service distributed processing, image processing based on GDI+, Image Pyramid, data indexing, data caching were discussed in details; at last, based on the methods above, web publication for great capacity remote sensing image was realized which proved the feasibility of this scheme.
