Geographic Information System, referred to as GIS, and Remote Sensing, referred to as RS, are not only independent but also consistent each other. And now, remote sensing image has become the core of GIS.In recent years, with the rapid development of remote sensing technology, the acquisition of remote sensing image has become increasingly easy. All kinds of remote sensing images have become very rich, and the price of remote sensing images is getting cheaper and cheaper. All above provide the favorable conditions for using RS images in the GIS applications of various enterprises. On the other hand, with the rich and the explosion in the number of types of remote sensing images, massive remote sensing images, which capacity is over thousands of GB (Giga Byte), are used in enterprise applications. How to effectively deal with, fast to load and display these massive data is the key weather the remote sensing data can be really applied in various types of GIS systems.In this paper, IMG remote sensing data of ERDAS is considered as an example, to discuss the related technologies and methods for dealing effectively, loading and painting rapidly of massive RS image data in GIS system which is developed independently. Furthermore, the specific design and implementation of the system are also clarified. Specifically, there are four aspects as follow.ⅰ The method of compression for massive remote sensing image is studied. Under the precondition of no affecting to the effect of system, high-quality compression to remote sensing images is carried out.ⅱ In order to achieve the quick loading and view of remote sensing data, the technology of image layered searching and image quick filtering are used. ⅲ On the basis of the analysis and comparison of different image painting technologies, OpenGL is selected to achieve the aim of displaying the remote sensing image data smoothly and special drawing.Ⅳ Synthesizing the technology of remote sensing image processing and the theory of component GIS, the details of the design and implementation of the GIS system, which is developed independently by enterprises and massive RS image is integrated, is discussed.
