VideoGIS is the newly development of traditional MultimediaGIS. It is applied to the managements of the linear establishment, through the integrated, index and interactive between geo-referenced video information and traditional geographic information. And it is consisted of the spatio-temporal video data model, the data capture system, the data editing and management system and the VideoGIS applications. For the problems in data capture, based on the analysis of the structural characteristics of video data and spatial data, a VideoGIS data capture system was designed and implemented in the paper.Based on the review of the progress of MultimediaGIS, VideoGIS and summing up the video collection methods, a more generic data capture programme of VideoGIS was implemented. The procedures of this research ara:â‘ Considering of the features of video data and the model of video data in the current, a GeoVideo data model that base on the time reference was described in this paper that the establishment of the logic relationship between geographical location and video images frame;â‘¡On the Mobile Computers, digital video and GPS, a data capture system for VideoGIS was designed. That is, video data captured by DirectShow and location data transmited from GPS to Mobile Computer by Bluetooth wireless communications, were storage real-timely and synchronizedly, in VC++ 6.0 environment.â‘¢Collecting field data, analyzing of the data and developing a video player for the special-purpose are to confirm the feasibility of GIS data model.â‘£Optimizing the data structure and algorithm of data capture system, so that it will become a practical system.It is concluded from the design and implementation of the data capture system for VideoGIS:â‘ The VideoGIS data model based on the time reference, not only meet the expression of geospatial information, but also provide a more practical solution about the interaction of geography information and video images.â‘¡The system achieved by using DirectShow technology, GPS technology and wireless communications, could easily complete the collection of video images data and geospatial data.â‘¢The data collected by the system satisfies the basic VideoGIS data model,and make it possible that the VideoGIS applications in highway maintenance, river training, urban management, mobile monitoring, tourism and other fields.This paper is composed of six parts. The first part summarizes the background of the data capture system for VideoGIS and introduces contents, significance, objects of the research and so on. The second part reviews research development of Multimedia GIS and VideoGIS, and summarizes the data capture methods of VideoGIS Programs. The third part discusses relative theory and basic technology of VideoGIS, details the route taken by the research and development tools. The fourth part describes the design of the data capture system. First, the time reference GeoVideo data model is described basing on analyzing the video data characteristics and the interactive mode of the video and map. Afterward, it details the process of the data acquisition software system's design that suites the above data model. Finally described the major technique which the VideoGIS data capture software development needs. The fifth part aims to achieve programming and testing of the data capture system, detailes the implementation process of the the system's main modules, then empolders a special media player and actually tests to verify the system's feasibility. The last part summarizes the result, major innovation and research prospect.
