With the development of marine science,we have preserved a large number of marine science data,which are involved in all aspects of marine science,such as marine physics,marine biology,marine chemistry,marine weather,and many other research areas.Such data has been collected by more and more different scientific research groups or individuals.Because the marine data was collected by different equipment,was processed by different information processing platform and it has inconsistent data standards,different data storage format,different purpose to study, these data had become marine heterogeneous data with poor compatibility, comparability and low utilization rate.This caused a great waste of oceanographic information resources.In order to make full use of these data,and to avoid the duplication of data resources building,we have an urgent need to integrate and share these heterogeneous marine data.Ontology is the vocabularies using in a field and it defines the basic terminology and relationships which composes these vocabularies.Equally,it also defines a number of rules on how to form the terminology and relationships to vocabularies. Traditional data integration technology is difficult to solve heterogeneous data semantics.Ontology has great advantages to resolving heterogeneous data semantics. So this paper uses ontology technology to try to resolve the problem about heterogeneous marine data semantics.This paper discussed the current data integration technology in the application, and then introduces ontology's advantages in resolving the Semantic Ontology heterogeneous areas.Furthermore this paper discussed the details of the concept of the body,ontology language,ontology classifications,and focused on the key technology about the data integration using ontology.Data integration system architecture based on ontology was presented based on sources of marine remote sensing data.Finally this paper descripts the detail of the function of each part,the design and operation of processes and based on the data integration system architecture a test system was developed.Through experiments and testing,the system can not only solve the marine remote sensing data heterogeneous problems well but also integrate data dynamically, that is,to add new data sources,the work just need to do is adding the corresponding local ontology and adding the mapping of related concept into the global ontology.In addition,since all data access is through the local data source's visit by ontology,so good data consistency and real-time is guaranteed.Therefore,the application of Ontology technology to solve the heterogeneity of marine data,particularly marine data semantic heterogeneity is of great significance for data integration and the full sharing of information,for improving marine resource utilization,maintaining the consistency and real-time of data resources,for avoiding duplication building of data resources.For users,it also has great convenience.Users only need to consider for extracting data,without the need to consider where the data sources are,what kind of data sources are;only need to specify the data request,and need not concern data extraction,data synthesis,and other data processes.
