With the development of computer,mobile communication,wireless internet, global positioning and embedded mobile terminal technologies,the conventional GIS is gradually developing on the trend towards mobile GIS,which is free from the restriction of cable and position,allowing people not only to collect,update and display geospatial data,also to access geographic information services they need anytime and anywhere.However,mobile GIS technology is still facing many probIems like difficult data sharing,small physical memory,low network bandwidth and poor information handling ability,etc.Agent is a computing body and procedure which can perceive the surrounding under a certain condition and can automatically proceed to represent its designer or user to achieve his/her purpose.The birth and development of Agent is due to the developing AI,distributed and internet technologies.It provides a new method for the complicated, dynamic and distributed intelligent application.To solve the mentioned problems above and promote a more intelligent improvement for mobile GIS,the author is about to introduce Agent technology into mobile GIS and provide new concepts and methodology for its research and application.It will have an important theoretical and practical meaning for the optimization of resource utilization rate,as well as the reduction of system complication and construction cost of mobile GIS application.In this paper,the author firstly introduces the recent researches and related technologies of mobile GIS and then focuses on an inside research and analysis on the Agent theory and its technological characteristics.On the basis of that,with Agent's advantages in solving mobile GIS's problems on the aspects of GIS task allocation and spatial information processing,etc,the author presents the Agent application model for mobile GIS(A-MGIS) and the three-layer structured(separately named presentation layer,Agent application service layer and data layer) specific design for the model with a combination of the two communication and cooperation modes,Agent's blackboard model and message dialog.In the end,on the basis of the model,the author attempts to improve and test the existing mobile GIS check system.The research test proves that the model's design idea is reasonable and applicable,and the expected goals and requirements are basically achieved.
