Three Gorges Reservoir Area of Yangtze River is an important shipping channels and water control pivot. It is have a great significance for economic development and people's livelihood. However, the Three Gorges reservoir area's unique geological, hydrological and climate and other natural features make the Three Gorges reservoir area has become one of the serious natural disaster region in the country. With large water conservancy projects start, such as the Three Gorges Project have controlled the floods and other natural disasters, but also led to new Geologic hazards. Traditionally, remote sensing method have been used for interpret Geologic hazards in Three Gorges reservoir area. And then we carry out the investigation of Geologic hazards. At the same time, we monitor the changes in reservoir dynamically by adoption of multi-temporal remote sensing images. Spatial database is built on the base of remote sensing data, and we use GIS for spatial data management and analysis. In recent years, with the 3DGIS technology and computer technology development, the mass spatial data management and visualization is possible in Three Gorges reservoir area. 3DGIS make up the not intuitive weakness of two-dimensional remote sensing and GIS technology, and greatly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of Geologic hazards interpretation. In addition, 3DGIS's unique measurement and spatial analysis methods, such as indivisibility analysis and flood inundation risk analysis, have already widespread used for geological survey and geological monitoring in Three Gorges reservoir area.Through the compare and analyze the mainstream of 3DGIS software, Skyline company's TerraSuites products are determined to use as a tool for generate three-dimensional scenes and develop information system. After research the TerraSuites' modeling and development model, the authors use TerraBuilder set up a three-dimensional terrain model of the Three Gorges reservoir area and use of VC++.NET and TerraDeveloper to develop the 3DGIS of Three Gorges reservoir area. Three Gorges Reservoir Area of Three-dimensional Geographic Information System's function include basic 3DGIS function and special function which apply to the business of Three Gorges reservoir area. At 3DGIS functions, the system implement the management and editing for basic Geographic information data, and also implement the roaming and browser in the entire three-dimensional scenes of the Three Gorges reservoir area. At business functions, the system implement multi-purpose query, Report of Geologic hazards, the lay of terrain extraction and the attitude of bed calculate, the landslide layer construction, the ship motion simulation and motion capture and so on. In this paper, from system architecture design to various function modules of the design and implementation are all in detailed discussion. And the design and implementation process of algorithms are also in-depth exploration into. In general, the Three Gorges reservoir area of three-dimensional Geographic Information System provide methods for management and analysis of geographical elements in Three Gorges reservoir area, And also provide methods to support decision-making in investigation and monitoring of Geologic hazards. Finally, the author describe the way to use this system for landslide interpretation in the LONG KOU, Three Gorges. Through the example, we briefly introduce the application for investigation and dynamic monitoring of Geologic hazard with this Three Gorges Reservoir Area Three-dimensional Geographic Information System.
