With the development of economy, a lot of long-period structures rush out. These structures are sensitive to long-period ground motions. The seismic designs of them need the parameters of long-period ground motions, at the same time, the structures which have been built need rebuilding to resist the long-period ground motions. At present, the studies on long-period ground motions are in the preliminary stage. The observation data of earthquakes which are lack of long-period frequency components hinder the development of the study. The digital broad-band seismographs used by seismologists have high quality long-period characteristics and the records are suitable for studying long-period ground motions. On may 12th, 2008, an earthquake took place in Wenchuan whose magnitude is 8.0 grades. In this paper, we study the attenuation relationship of the long-period ground motion using the seismic records obtained by China Earthquake Networks Center. The influence scope of Wenchuan Earthquake is so broad that caused the public fear in many areas of China. In this paper, we research the influence scope of this earthquake based on the model analysis using the MSC-Marc software. The main achievements of this paper could be summarized as follows:1. The situation of the study on long-period ground motions is briefly summarized in this paper and also, the significance of the study on the influence scope of the earthquake is pointed out.2. We collect several attenuation relationships about the peak ground acceleration (PGA) and peak ground velocity (PGV) in the horizontal direction which are commonly used in Earthquake Engineering. Then, we check the applicability of these relationships used in the far field.3. We define the Perceptibility Scale and build the model. After getting the spectrum response of the model, we use the Perceptibility Scale as reference to point out the grades in different floors of the model. At last, we figure out the influence scope of the Wenchuan Earthquake. In the conclusion part, the summary is given.
