The raising of sustainable development in 70s to 80s of 20th century made ecological carrying capacity a great progress and people give more consentration on the coordinated development 'nature-economy-socitry' complicated system. The research of its ecological constructure and functional integrity may promote eco-island construction. As is isolated from the continent, islands are sensitive in ecosystem. If not developed properly, islands may receive ecosystem destroy and give negative force to other areas. So it is a prerequisite for the complementation of eco-island construction that how to realize sustainable development in island region, named as carriable of ecosystem.Acompanying with the aim of the ecological construction of Chongming Island Region, the study works through the concept of sustainable development, set Chongming Island Region as the study area, based on the statistic data from 1995 to 2005, the observation data from 2005 to 2006 and RS image of Chongming Islands Region in 2005, uses Object Stratified Approach to contract the ecological carrying capacity accessment index system, uses state space approach to assess the index data and AHP to decide the weights to calculate the indices of ecological carrying capacity and its sub-objects. The author uses GIS spatial analyst to study spacital distinction of ecological carrying capacity and its sub-objects in Chongming Island Region and uses MapObjects 2.0 and MS SQL Server to build ecological carrying capacity database and matabase in the condition of VB 6.0.The result shows that the ecological carrying capacity of Chongming Islands Region can be carried from 1998 to 2004 but turns to be worse as year goes by. The trend of environmental tolerance is like ecological carrying capacity but falls more badly. The trend of resources supply is flat and at the status of fully carried. The trend of human support is very low and over carried, which indicates that the development mode of Chongming Island Region is beyond the demand of eco-island construction.As for spatial distinction of ecological carrying capacity in Chongming Islands Region, the west region is the best, north-west part better than south-east part in the north region, mid-north and east part better than mid-east in the middle region, the south region fully carried and some part over carried, south part better than north part in the east region, Changxing and Hengsha regions better than Chongming region. In Envionmental tolerance, Changxing and Hengsha regions are the best, the west region uniformed distributed, the east part worse than other parts in the north region, the south region generally bad, south part better than north part in the east region. In resources supply, most parts of Chongming Islands Region are fully carried and some parts over carried. The west, Changxing and Hengsha regions are the best, the east and north regions better, the south bad. In human support, the whole Chongming region is over carried, Changxing and Hengsha regions better.In the process of ecological carrying capacity computation, the study develops DBMS by means of the construction of ER modules and physical modules and MBMS using GIS developing tools. It complements the black-box status of state space module, the auto accomplishment of the assessment of ecological carrying capacity and hierarchical management of indices system.The study can be concluded that Chongming Island Region has a relatively large carrying space. The good nature environment and plenty of water and land resource show that Chongming has great potential in the future development. The focus of futher development is trying to promote the contribution of science and technology in industry and change extensive development to intensive development by breaking what resist development. Using GIS development technology accompanied with ecology, complementing various management of date, the black-box status of modules, and auto accomplishment of ecological carrying capacity assessment can save most research time and provide significant reference of futher research, the construction of ecological database and the build of Chongming digital ecosystem.
