The 21st century,an era characerized by knowledge economy,has increasingly made the acquirement of knowledge a life-long process.The development trend produces a greater need for students who should not only have a sound mind and body, but more importantly,a life-long ability for autonomous learning.Thus in the teaching of advanced mathematics adequate attention must be given to fostering students' learning capacity,in particular,their capacity for life-long learing and mathematics consiousness.What holds especially true of all the prerequisites in the realization of such a goal lies in the enhancement of the students' autonomous learning ability.In the era of knowledge economy and informatization,the renewal of knowledge has immensely accelerated,so it is of considerable significance to foster the innovation ability and lifelong learning ability in our students,which has already been made an indispensible part of the curriculum reform of the elementary education of China. However,in the practice,certain problems,badly in need of a solution,have also emerged.How to formulate efficient strategies to tackle such problems has thus become the starting point of this paper.The research subjects are chosen among the students from the Neijiang Normal University and their autonomous learning ability of advanced mathematics is made our biggest concern.Diversified research methods including leterature consultation, interviews,questionaires,etc,.are employed to the survey and analysis of the status quo of autonomous learning among college students.Furthermore,countermeasures are suggested to foster their abilty in this regard in response to those factors that may exert signiciant influence upon studnets' learning of advanced mathematics.Findings of this research can also serve as useful sources of referrence for college mathematics reform and development.Firstly,starting from the context which helps mold the notion of autonomous learning,an analysis is made of the status quo concerning autonomous learning researches both home and abroad and in combination with the current reality of advanced mathematics teaching and the ultimate goal of teaching,the author proposes that autonomous learning should be advocated in the teaching of advanced mathematics.Seconldly,by means of questionaires,some facts about the autonomous learning status quo of the students in our university are spotted:1.Their overall competence in autonomous learning is just about up to the average.2.A much higher level of competence is observed in girls in terms of the autonomous learning and many other indices than in boys.3.College students' level of autonomous learning competence takes an upward trend as they grow still older.Major factors that may exert influence on the autonomous learning competence of college students include roughly the following:the student's prior mathematical skills; the student's learning motives and philosiphy;the student's prior learning strategies and approaches;the learning content and the influences from the teachers.Thirdly,a theoretical exploration is made to examine the theoretical basis of the advanced mathematics learning.It covers a wide range of concepts such as the definition of autonomous learning,and the advanced mathematics autonomous learning; characteristics of autonomous learning;the theoretical basis;the concept of advanced mathematics and its characteristics(advanced mathematics learnig and its characteristics; the autonomous learning of the concepts in advanced mathematics;the learning of the thinking modes;the problem -solving guidance;modern teaching media and the advanced mathematics course).Finally,some strategies aiming to improve autonomous learning of advanced mathematics are suggested:emphasis be made to further stimulate students' learning motives,thus to foster their interest in autonomous learning;improving teaching methods so as to help the students form the habit of autonomous learnig;renewing the teacher's concepts about classroom mathematics teaching to help create an optimal atmosphere for autonomous learning;creating problem situation;encouraging learning autonomy;equipping students with adequate learning methods and learning strategies; directing students into autonomous learning;strengthening mathematical modeling to solve physical problems;renewing mathematics teachers' teaching concepts and traditional models of mathematical instruction;adopting proper assessment methods; enhancing development of students' autonomous learning.
