Virtual reality technology based on Vega simulation is applied to the research of scattering characteristics of a moving object. The theory of light scattering and the relationship among scattering parameters are briefly introduced. The development of earth surface model establishing is specifically elaborated and several classical methods, including Radiation Transmission Method, Geometric Optics Method, Hybrid Method, and Numerical Simulation Method are introduced. The bidirectional reflectance distribution function models of vegetation canopy, soil and desert are firstly studied. On the condition of different parameters, the BRDF distribution with changing angels for each model is analyzed.Based on the theory of scattering, the relationship between texture and BRDF is established by sampling images under various lighting angels from the same observation point. The influence of the light on the object and environment is further studied. The change of texture can visualize the effect of light scattering on the object. The software including Creator, Vega and OpenGL are introduced. With using these tools, the scene simulation module, lighting module and calculation module based on MFC are developed. By simulating the effect of different lighting conditions, the Laser Radar Cross-Section of the moving and resting objects are respectively calculated and analyzed. Meanwhile, the light scattering intensity is computed. The simulation of light scattering characteristics is preliminarily achieved which technically supports the object detecting research.
