Jiaodong is one of important gold mining areas in China,with long time mining history.It's critical to find concealed mineral deposits,but conventional geochemical methods are not suitable due to contaimination of surface soils by mining activities.Langshan Mountain in Inner Mongolia is a polymetallic mineralization belt.This region is located in semiarid desert terrains,which is covered by windblown sands.The cover mask mineralization information at surface.Hydrogeochemical methods can overcome these problems.Water as a sampling medium has following advantages:1)it is easy to be sampled.2)underground water homogenously distributes,which can reflect a large area,3)underground water can give deep information to concealed depoits because it directly contact the ore bodies.The above-mentioned two regions represent two typical landscape setting and two types of mineral deposits.The samples are analysed for Au,Ag,Cu,Mo,Pb,Sb,Zn,As,Hg,Ba,Bi,Cd,Na,K,Mg,Ca,U,and sulfate,pH.Underground Water is acidic in Jiaodong area,Metallic minerals are easily dissolved in the water.There are greater contrast between anomalies and background values and variations for Au and Zn than that of the other elements.There is good correlation between Au,Hg and sulphate,which are consistent with the known gold deposits.Au,Hg and sulphate,are positive indicators to blind gold deposits.Underground water is alkalic in Langshan area.Metallic minerals are difficult to be dissolved in water.Contents of As and Mo is higher in water than that of the other elements, but their correlation coefficient of variation is smaller.Variation coefficient of Mn is big,but its abundance is small in the range of background values in natural water.Content of Au is low.Anormalies of Ag,As,Sb,Pb is obvious around the copper ore,and variation coefficient was bigger than that of other elements,which can indicate to mineral deposits.High-sensitive analytical technology of ICP-MS is powerful to determine ultra-trace elements in water.
