The process of one-dimensional metal - dielectric photonic crystals whose optical properties are excellent and also which has metal properties manufacturing is simple. It can be applied to sensors, heat penetrating windows, mirrors, head protection devices, optoelectronic devices.In this paper, we used the transfer matrix method to numerically simulate transmission characteristics of the one-dimensional metal - dielectric photonic crystals. We have simulated the transmittance, reflectance and absorption rate of the single-layer metal, given the three changed with the thickness of metal layer and frequency curve. We designed three kinds of metal-dielectric multi-layers and (BCAC)~N structure by selecting a appropriate structure and optical parameters to achieve high transmittance effect or good filtering effect successfully. According to the conditions of surface plasma resonance produced by metal - one dimensional photonic crystals, we get TE, TM mode of surface waves by choosing appropriate parameters. We also have calculated the surface wave changed with the thickness of metal layer and the incidence angle.Those conclusive which we have made in this paper may provide a reference for the actual manufacture of some optoelectronic devices.
