The management of power distribution network is an important part of electric power companies' routine work.. Traditional way of management mainly depended on tables and drawing paper, which resulted in heaps of paper data as years passed. In the meantime it also brought difficulties in the data update and storage, data is lost easily and destructible. Besides routine check is not intuitive and decision-making reference on the development and reconstruction of power gird isn't available with this way. What is worse, those inconvenience showed accumulation development trend. The later power distribution network management information system proved its excellence in attribute data management while incapable as for spatial data management and utilization. In order to find a solution to the problems in the traditional management information system this paper studies the combination of geographical information system and power distribution network management system, designs and develops power distribution network geographical information system(PDNGIS), which depends on SQL Server and ArcSDE for data management and is developed by ArcEngine and Visual Studio. The system has an architecture of server/client(C/S) and realizes dynamical association and integrated management of foundational geographical information and electric power equipment data as well as advanced analysis functions by means of spatial analysis so as to simplify the manipulation and improve work efficiency.This paper's major contents and conclusions are listed as follows:1) makes an analysis of purpose and significance of the topic for discussion, gives a summary of the current situation of power distribution network management system at home and abroad. At the same time compares the advantages and problems of PDNGIS, summarizes the contribution and innovation of this paper.2)introduces three major involved technologies:Component GIS software technology, spatial database technology and spatial data model. Discusses the spatial database for power distribution network based on ArcSDE and proposes the power distribution network model based on Geodatabase.3)this paper adopts object-oriented analysis and design methods to make requirement analysis and system design. It discusses system design objectives and principles and gives overall design description in many aspects such as system architecture design, functional architecture design, system organization design, system operation and development environment and so on. It also makes a description of system functions which should be achieved and lists some of the key code of the system.4) in the implementation of specific instances in the system, the system function modules were introduced:it illustrates the various graphics functions of power grid; it makes a detailed description of data import wizard in the implementation of equipment accounting management; outage analysis, statistical reporting, operation and management functions are also described.5) Finally this article summarizes all the work and points out what to do next.
