The rheology of aqueous suspensions of three palygorskite clays from Jiangsu and Anhui has been investigated as a function of the composing of clays, different concentrations of NaCl solution,pH, different electrolyte solutions, dosages of dispersant, and linear methods were applied for fitting the rheological parameters with Casson model. The results showed that few of other impure minerals doesn't effect the rheological properties, the samples that crushing form the original clays are line with the Casson model. The size of clays, pH, different electrolyte solutions, addition of dispersant can influence the rheological properties, and the addition of dispersant is the most influential factors. But the effect of the concentrations of NaCl solution doesn't significantly.Basis on the study of the the rheology of aqueous suspensions, the purify of the palygorskite clay has been study as a function of dispersed by different dispersant, different impurity removing ways, different settling time, different dispense ways, different ratio of dispensent, different acid modification. The results showed that both PAAS and (NaPO3)6 can remove the quartz and dolomite in the clay, when the soil-water ratio is 1/10, using the high-speed mixing way can get the more pure palygorskite, the ratio of the PAAS dispensent is at least 0.5%, just settle the impurities can't completely remove them, but centrifugal the impurities can get the highly pure palygorskite, acid modification can dissolve the dolomite in the clay, and can enhance the recovery rate of the pure palygorskite.
