The topology optimization is the most challenging topic in structural optimization. It may be helpful in improving performance of the structure and saving its weight. Moreover, the topology optimization may provide solution for problem which is not possible to solve in an analytical way. In recent years, the topology optimization has already become a hot topic in structural optimization design. Therefore, it is promising to develop the methodology of topology optimization and further complete it in oder to employ it in engineering application.The Evolutionary Structure Optimization (ESO) method is studied in the present paper. According to the demands of structural design in engineering, the ESO method is applied in the optimization of Centrifuger Neccele. The details are as follows.Firstly, based on the ANSYS softwear plantform, the ESO method is implemented in numerical simulations, including two different ESO methods, i.e., deleting elements by stress or by total rigidity.Secondly, the sensitivity analyses of displacement and stress are carried out based on ESO method. The strategy for deleting elements is also discussed, such as the stress constrained and the displacement constrained toplogy optimization of a continium structure. Therein, the variation of maximum stress in the structure is minimized and the maximum stress as well as displacement follows in the safe range during structure optimization. The methodology of topology optimization is validated by several examples in engineering application. The simulation results satisfy the engineering demands. Especially, it is better to employ the method provided in the present paper in continium structure optimization constrained by stress in order to obtain the optimum results.Thirdly, based on the analyses of sensitivity, the ESO method and the chechkerboard pattern in ESO are further studied when ESO is employed to optimize structure in consideration of inertia loads when it is under multiple conditions and constraints. Moreover, the process of the optimization is detaily explained based on the ANSYS software platform.Lastly, the structural optimization of Centrifuger Neccele is completed with considering its body force. The APDL is employed during the analyses.
