This paper takes the analysis of commercial shampoo as the basis. First, the cationic polymer conditioner was isolated and identified from commercial shampoo by routine analysis methods. Secondly, using ultrasonic technology in the synthesis of cationic hydroxyethyl cellulose, furthermore, its structure and application properties were studied. Finally, it was discussed that the effect of substituent distribution of hydroxyethyl cellulose and molecular weight distribution of cationic hydroxyethyl cellulose on product performance. It is the feature of cationic polymer that insoluble in absolute ethyl alcohol and soluble in water. According to this feature, the crude extractive of Sassoon shampoo was obtained by a two-step solution with absolute ethyl alcohol and water in turn, filtration, concentration, dialysis, freeze drying and so on. The characterization results showed that the Sassoon extractive consisted with the sample JR-400 in IR and HPLC spectra, but in the GPC spectra, their molecular weight was not on the same level. In presence of alkaline catalyst, the cationic hydroxythyl cellulose was prepared via the hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) reacting with etherifying agent (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimetyl ammonium chloride, CHPTMA) under the ultrasonic. After the single factor and orthogonal experimental, the process route is optimal when meet the following conditions: the mass ratio of CHPTMA/HEC is 1:2, mass ratio of Cat/HEC is 2:3, reaction time is 1 h, temperature is 55°C. The reaction efficiency of etherifying agent can reach 36.88 %, compared with the traditional process, ultrasonic process can not only increase the efficiency by 15%, but also can short the reaction time greatly and reduce the cost. The analysis results of combility, the quantity of silicone deposition and sensory evaluation showed that the performance of self-made cationic hydroxythyl cellulose was better than domestic products and can compete with foreign similar products. The distribution of HEC substituent was determined by the method of enzymatic hydrolysis. The results showed that the better the uniformity of substituent distribution of HEC is, the better the performance of its cationic moditied products will be.And this law also works on the uniformity of the molecular weight of the products which can be showed by GPC.
